The Reckless Story

Reckless Records was formed in 1998 by Bill Chambers and Audrey Auld.

Bill & Audrey met in 1996 and discovered they shared a love for traditional country and roots music. They recorded their duet album, 'Looking Back To See' in 1998 and soon realized there was no label in Australia interested in releasing traditional country music, so with reckless abandon they formed their own label.

For Audrey it was her first album release, so she drew on her years of experience working in the film and animation industry to help her with the administrative aspects, combining that with a strong work ethic and the love of a challenge. Bill had several recordings released and many years of experience dealing with record labels, the media, touring and fans, with his family band, the Dead Ringer Band.

Bill & Audrey soon developed a loyal audience to their upbeat, hard-core hillbilly music. Together they have introduced traditional country and roots music to new audiences in Australia, and opened the eyes of U.S. fans to new sounds from Down Under.

'Bill & Audrey's Hillbilly Jam', a weekly jam session in Sydney, and annually during the Tamworth Country Music Festival, helped nurture the performance skills and careers of many young artists, including Catherine Britt.

Bill and Audrey have often been cited as an inspiration to singers, songwriters and musicians keen to discover the roots of Australian and American music, and to find their voice within it. They've also reaffirmed the independent path to many artists.

By releasing Fred Eaglesmith, The Yearlings and Mary Gauthier's albums in Australia, great music that will never be on the Top 40 gains an audience. "We work with artists we love who make the music they love", says Audrey. "We're not record label gurus. We're singer/songwriters creating outlets for music we love."

Reckless Records is now based in Nashville, and operated by Audrey Auld.
